We have an older refrigerator that always had to be set at about 9 (out of 10) to keep cool. It is built in a kitchen cupboard set and has a good couple of inches all around for cooling.
I installed a small (3" dryer venting) vent from the back near the middle and took it down and tied it in to my furnace cold air return. It helps pull the heat off and away from the back coils allowing the space to cool faster. It works summer and winter with a/c and heat as it just adds to the return air. Summer it takes the extra heat away and in the winter it helps to preheat the return air. win-win.
Unbelievable! We now set the cooling to 5, the fridge is quieter and runs less often.

We have a place in our two bedroom home for a rainwater collection system and to our amazing satisfaction we have had the capacity to recharge the water under by roughly four tankfuls in our 6 by 4 by 4 foot water tank. I have to say that poly water tanks with stormwater harvesting are extremely important in society. We do our best to use all of the water we get.
